What is the purpose of online treatment?
Online Substance Abuse Treatment’s Online Treatment website provides two programs for treating alcohol and drug addiction: live online group sessions led by experienced addiction counselors, and an online self directed treatment program that delivers treatment via interactive workbooks. The website’s mission is to leverage Internet technology to bring expert recovery help to individuals who otherwise might not get the treatment they need. Online treatment puts trained experts in contact with individuals who need help. The innovative online format ensures privacy and convenience while preserving the effectiveness of traditional treatment.
What do I need to connect my computer to OSAT’s Online Self Directed Treatment Program?
You will need access to the Internet. You will also need to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer in order to use the interactive workbook chapters. If you don’t already have Adobe Reader installed, you can get a free copy from the Adobe website.
What is the Online Self Directed Treatment Program?
You will be presented with 30 chapters of recovery coursework. The chapters are rich in helpful, healing information. More importantly, they are interactive, requiring your participation and your engagement in your own recovery process, which customizes the treatment to your life.
The chapters are designed to be downloaded onto your computer, so you can work on them in your own time, and keep them on hand for future reference and to continue to deepen your connection with your recovery. Chapters are delivered as interactive PDF (Portable Document Format) files to be used with the popular Adobe Reader software. They are like electronic workbooks that you can write into as you work through the exercises.
You’ll use the Online Self Study Couse’s Chapter Timeline to download chapters and take quizzes and the final exam. The Chapter Timeline serves up one new chapter every day, starting on the day you enroll in the course.
You will receive an email containing a link to login to the Self Directed Treatment Program. You will also be mailed a printed Certificate of Enrollment, you can use to show your family, your employer, or a judge that you are taking steps towards your recovery.
How long does the Self Directed Treatment Program take to complete?
You will have between 30 and 45 days to complete 30 chapters, 4 quizzes and one final exam; that’s 35 tasks in all. You must complete them in order.
Chapters and quizzes are timed to release to you no faster than one per day so you have time to absorb the lesson fully. The chapter immediately following a quiz is available immediately after you pass the quiz. So the quickest you can complete the course is 30 days.
The longest you’re allowed to take is 45 days. If you haven’t completed all coursework by then, your 45 day session will expire. You will be allowed to re-enroll at a 50% discount for another 45 day period and complete the course from where you left off. The application will track your progress for you and give you warnings if you’re falling behind schedule or in danger of running out of time before you finish.
Here’s some advice. Target your pace through the coursework to complete a chapter a day. That will give you a grace period of 15 extra days during the length of the course, so if a particular chapter wants more than a day, you’ll have the extra time to give to it. Use your time wisely. Don’t skip days unless you really have to. Don’t let too many tasks pile up against the expiration date. And be sure to leave at least a couple of days at the end to complete the rigorous final exam.
After every 6 chapters, you will be given a quick quiz, each consisting of 7 multiple-choice questions. You must score 100% on a quiz before you can continue to the next chapter. You will have as many tries as you need to achieve this. The next chapter will become available as soon as you pass the quiz.
At the end of the course, you will take a 100 question final exam. Please leave plenty of time to complete it. You need to score 75% correct or better to pass the final. You will have only two tries to achieve this. If you fail on your third attempt, you may contact OSAT to re-enroll at a 50% discount, and try again.
You may use your downloaded chapters for reference during all of the quizzes and the final exam.
What do I go away from the course with?
If you apply yourself to the material in OSAT’s Online Self Directed Treatment Program, you’ll walk away with a wealth of insight into your addiction, it’s causes, and how to find your path free of it.
Also, on your successful completion of the Online Self Directed Treatment Program, you will be mailed a printed Certificate of Achievement. Use these certificates to show to the court, your family, or just for your own trophy collection.
We hope you’ll get on-going use from the material covered in this course. Keep those chapter files somewhere you can find them again later. Your writing in them will be a valuable benchmark for reference by the future you.
